After laying the groundwork during the preparation phase, the real trial by fire for our young pigeons begins: the travel season. Now it's about taking the animals to a new level physically and mentally – with targeted feeding, consistent training, and the right care around the races. In this post, I show how I take care of my young pigeons during the season – and why I also trust Mifuma here.
1. The right nutrition – adapted to distance and stress
Travel Light – my base for the whole week During the entire travel season, Travel Light forms the constant foundation in my loft. The mixture is easily digestible, promotes regeneration, and does not unnecessarily burden the organism – ideal for sensitive young pigeons.
Start of the week: Lower energy – bring in calm with Relax At the beginning of the week, I mix Relax into the feed. This way, I consciously reduce some energy: The pigeons should recover, come to rest, and recharge. The combination of Travel Light and Relax ensures a balanced start to the week.
Race preparation: Elite Racing as a boost From Thursday, I significantly increase the energy supply – now Elite Racing comes into play. This high-quality mixture provides the necessary power for race day. It contains everything needed for longer distances and demanding conditions:
- concentrated fats,
- easily available energy,
- optimal nutrients for muscles and endurance.
Different paths – different mixtures Mixtures like Top Young Pigeon, Power-Mix, or Energy from Mifuma are also excellently balanced – and offer very good options for breeders who pursue a different strategy. Every loft is different, every philosophy individual. It is important to find your own way – and to follow it consistently. For me, this means: Travel Light as a base, Relax at the start of the week, Elite Racing towards the end.
2. Daily training – Consistency beats chaos
For me, the rule is: Routine provides security. Even during the travel season, daily training is mandatory. The process remains structured:
- morning free flight in the group (not too long, rather focused),
- regular basket training between flights (once or twice a week),
- clear rhythms in feeding, cleaning, and rest times.
With this discipline, the pigeons not only learn to fly better but also to regenerate faster. After each training session, there is a small reward: peanuts.
3. Fresh grit – daily, not just occasionally
What is often underestimated: Grit is just as important during travel as the feed itself. Digestion and nutrient absorption directly depend on whether the pigeon has access to fresh grit. I provide fresh Grit and Oremin from Mifuma daily. The combination of stomach gravel, seashells, redstone, and herbs ensures:
- better feed utilization,
- stable digestion,
- calcium supply for healthy bones and a smooth molt.
4. Gaining experience – every flight counts
Especially with young pigeons, the goal is not victory but experience. Every stay in the cabin express is valuable:
- Social behavior develops.
- The animals learn to orient themselves.
- The home loft is reinforced.
Therefore, I take as many young pigeons as possible with me to give them learning opportunities. Patience pays off – many aces show their full strength only in the second year.
Conclusion: Through the season with Mifuma and a clear plan
The young pigeon journey is a phase full of development – physically, mentally, and character-wise. Those who now provide wisely, train regularly, and allow targeted experience create the basis for later top performances.
I consciously rely on consistency – with Mifuma products like Travel Light, Relax, and Elite Racing –, because they have proven themselves in my system.
But: There is no one right way. Every breeder must find out what suits their loft, their line, and their philosophy. Mifuma offers the necessary variety and quality for this – and the trust needed in the young pigeon journey.
“Good flight” for the young pigeon journey!
