Through his work at the BDRG's scientific poultry farm, Mario Lamers finds his way into breeding purebred pigeons. In 2022, the first purebred pigeons move in. What starts with just a few pairs quickly develops further: in 2023 and 2024, he consistently expands his breeding facility, laying the foundation for his current breeding program.
He focuses particularly on two breeds: the Old Austrian Tumblers in the color varieties lapwing blue with black bands, blue hammered, black and yellow, and the Catalan Tumblers as white plates in the variants dark bronze shield and ocher sulfur shield. “My focus is on healthy breeding animals, fast-growing young pigeons, an optimal loft climate, and careful hygiene. Optimal feeding supports all of these points,” says Mario Lamers. He relies on Mifuma Kalifornien all year round, while Vital Perle is added during the breeding season. The feed is supplemented with a selected grit mix of Edelgrit with red stone, Oremin, and Vital Power Stein. With passion, expertise, and consistency, Mario Lamers succeeds in breeding healthy, high-performance, and typical breed pigeons: an impressive example of how a passion can turn into a successful breeding program.
