Diet change on long distance flights

The decisive races are coming up. In German pigeon racing, these are the races covering distances from 400 km to 600 km. This is also the stage where championships are decided. Anyone who wants to compete at the top must have their pigeons in peak condition. Our Product Manager for pigeons, Robert Maaß, shares his tips for success over the long distances:

Rest Periods

The pigeons’ condition is built up before the season begins. Now, the focus is much more on allowing the pigeons sufficient recovery time. A balanced training schedule that includes both rest and training phases is essential.

For this reason, I let my pigeons train very calmly at the beginning of the week, completely without pressure. Towards the weekend, the loft exits sometimes remain closed and the pigeons stay in the loft or aviary for two days before basketing. On the day before basketing, they are also allowed to enjoy a bath.

Nutrition

At this stage, pigeons require sufficient energy. In addition to energy rich mixtures such as Energy or Elite Racing, you can also feed peeled sunflower seeds or peanuts.

Energy Öl from Röhnfried is also very suitable for giving the pigeons an additional energy boost during the second half of the week. To dry the feed afterwards, Konditionspulver RO 200 ready can also be used very effectively.

Time for Peak Performance

By combining optimal rest, balanced nutrition, and targeted training, pigeons are able to perform at their very best and the chances of a successful championship season increase significantly.
