The aim of every rabbit breeder is to present show animals with outstanding breed characteristics. Once the most promising young rabbits have been selected, the next step is to prepare them carefully for the upcoming shows.
In addition to keeping their housing clean to prevent soiling of the coat and help protect against disease, regular coat care and nail trimming are important parts of thorough show preparation. It is equally important to handle the rabbits regularly from an early age. This helps them become tame and confident and teaches them to present themselves well at shows.
Rabbit feed for show preparation
Choosing the right rabbit feed is another important part of preparing for exhibitions and shows. A carefully selected diet can help breeders support the physical development of their show animals. The premium feed Mifuma Zucht + Schau has been specially developed to meet rabbits’ increased requirements for vitamins, minerals and trace elements. We recommend feeding it for at least 8 weeks before the show, depending on the size and breed of the animals.
Its high calcium content supports healthy growth. The sulphur-containing amino acids cysteine and methionine, together with the vegetable oils contained in the feed, promote excellent coat quality and a beautiful shine. Oregano also supports the immune system and contributes to healthy digestion.
That little extra
Linamix® is a particularly effective supplementary feed for show preparation. It should be fed 6–8 weeks before the show in addition to pellets and roughage. This extruded linseed product has a visibly positive effect on coat quality, coat shine and skin health.

Feeding during the show
When it comes to feeding rabbits during a show, Mifuma Knabber-Max is an excellent choice. Measuring 7 cm in diameter and 15 cm in length, this compressed feed block not only helps provide the animals with feed throughout the show but also offers an excellent form of enrichment. Gnawing on the block also contributes to the natural wearing down of the teeth.
Knabber-Max is made from high-quality alfalfa, processed barley flakes, linseed, dried carrots and grape skins. It contains no molasses, making it suitable for offering freely throughout the day.
