We have revised our Luzerne-Mix. The result is a cleaner mixture with less dust and real added value for the animal. This is achieved through an extra addition of plant oil, which is applied to the freshly harvested, pure alfalfa. High quality plant oil not only benefits skin and coat in horses and rabbits, but also supports various metabolic processes and reduces dust content.
A fiber rich feed supplement for large and small animals
Luzerne-Mix is an ideal supplement to the daily hay ration for horses and small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs. It supports and promotes the sensitive digestive system of animals that rely on a fiber rich diet right from the start of feed intake. Alfalfa is not only valued for its high structural content, but also for its valuable nutrients and is often referred to as the “queen of forage plants.” In addition to essential amino acids, it contains vitamins such as carotene and various B vitamins. Trace elements like iron and copper, as well as minerals such as magnesium, are readily available to the animal. Luzerne-Mix is free from preservatives and additives. The newly added natural plant oil enhances it with high quality fatty acids.
New formulation and high quality production
At Mifuma, high standards already apply during production. Freshly harvested alfalfa is gently dried and then partially de-leafed before being pressed into handy bales, and is now additionally treated with plant oil. This process helps preserve valuable nutrients, protect natural vitamins, and reduce both the total protein content and the fine particle content of the product. The lower protein content allows for better integration into daily rations without the risk of excess protein intake. Animals benefit from the structured feed supplement made from nutrient rich stems. The added plant oil supports various metabolic processes and contributes to skin and coat condition in horses and rabbits. As a positive side effect, the remaining fine particles from the leaves are bound, keeping stables and enclosures cleaner and reducing dust exposure.
Enhancing rabbit feeding
Thanks to its high crude fiber content, Luzerne-Mix supports not only digestion but also the overall metabolism of rabbits. Natural nutrients such as proteins, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals make alfalfa a highly valued feed supplement among breeders. The partial removal of leaves reduces the total protein content, as leaves contain particularly high levels of protein. It also lowers the amount of fine particles. The sensitive digestive system of young rabbits should not be exposed to excessive protein levels, especially at the beginning. With this improved process, Luzerne-Mix is now also suitable for young rabbits, providing important structure for the development of a stable digestive system. It should initially be introduced in very small amounts and gradually increased as acceptance improves. For adult rabbits, Luzerne-Mix can be offered in addition to the daily hay ration or mixed with hay or herbs. Up to 50 percent of the daily hay ration can be replaced with Luzerne-Mix.
Roughage supplement for horses
Luzerne is also a popular roughage supplement in horse feeding. Feed structure and fiber fractions play an important role in supporting digestive activity. Thorough chewing promotes saliva production, which helps balance conditions in the stomach, while also supporting digestion in the intestinal tract. In addition to these benefits, riders and breeders value the natural vitamins, trace elements, and minerals with high availability. Calcium and phosphorus are particularly important for strong bones, and should be provided in the correct ratio in the horse’s diet. The readily available calcium in Luzerne-Mix helps balance the ratio in grain rich rations. Compared to hay, alfalfa also has a lower content of starch and sugar, which can be relevant for horses with specific nutritional needs. The addition of plant oil provides further fatty acids.
Luzerne-Mix is ideal for enhancing the hay ration. It can be fed at 1.5 to 3 kg per animal per day alongside good quality roughage and, if needed, concentrate feed. Mixing Luzerne-Mix with concentrate feed can help encourage chewing activity and support digestion.
