Chicken feed as mash or pellets? Many poultry keepers are unsure which form is best for their birds. Our poultry expert Georg Welker explains when he recommends mash and when pellets are the better choice.
“I generally recommend mash for breeds that tend to feather pecking. Due to its fine structure, birds have to peck more often and for longer to consume the full ration. They also need to visit the water more frequently,” explains our poultry feed product manager. Mifuma offers a range of mash feeds, from Kükenaufzucht Premium mash to Legemehl Premium, tailored to different life stages.
Our expert recommends pellets when birds tend to sort their feed. “If chickens only eat the coarse particles and leave the fine ones, their diet may become unbalanced and lacking in nutrients.” The advantage of pellets is that the birds consume the complete feed, ensuring intake of all nutrients such as protein, energy, minerals and vitamins. Mifuma also offers pellet feed for all stages – from Kükenaufzucht Premium to Junghennen Premium Pellet for young hens and Junghähne Premium Pellet for young roosters, up to Vollkraftpellet Premium.
