Organic Poultry Feed: New EU Regulation
Due to the new EU organic regulation, we must rename all our organic poultry feed. The EU organic regulation prohibits us and our competitors from continuing to label our organic bagged goods with "Organic" in the name. Therefore, we are now replacing the term "Organic" with "Natural."
The EU organic regulation states that a feed may only bear the designation "Organic" or "Eco" in the name if at least 95% of all components are organically produced agricultural raw materials. Unfortunately, there are lime and other minerals that laying hens need to be nutritionally correctly supplied, which do not come in different qualities and are not agricultural raw materials. Therefore, it is not possible to maintain the over 95% share in laying hen feed that is fully equipped as complete or supplementary feed.
Animal Welfare Before the Organic Label
It is beyond question for us that animal welfare and the best possible supply of poultry take precedence over the advertising message of the "Organic" label. We do not make any compromises and do not change the proven and well-thought-out compositions of our feed just so that we can continue to call it "Organic." We have tried in several instances to point out the misconception of this regulation, but we have not been heard anywhere. Therefore, the renaming of our organic goods is taking place.
Our feed will therefore carry the addition "Natural" in the name in the future and, according to the EU organic regulation, will have the note: "Can be used in organic production according to EU VO 2018/848!" Legally, it is not possible in Germany to offer our "Organic Laying Hen Feed" otherwise. Unfortunately, in this context, the European organic seal may no longer be used on these feeds in the future:
To ensure that you can always easily recognize the new organic feeds that are suitable for the production of organic-quality food, we have marked them with the individual Mifuma organic label. The feeds are still organically certified and, as can already be seen on the label, are fully suitable for the production of organic foods such as eggs or meat.
