With strong young pigeons to a top season finish.

The old bird racing season is coming to an end, and now is the time to focus on the young pigeons. Soon, they will have the opportunity to show their potential in training and races. However, before that, the breeder plays a key role. Successful young bird racing is not only about selecting the right parent stock. Training, proper care, and correct management during both the training and racing phases are just as important for good development.

Preparing young pigeons for their first flights
Before, during, and after weaning, breeders select the young birds that will take part in the young bird season. These are typically birds from the first, second, or third round of breeding, chosen not only for their pedigree but also for their silky plumage, strong body structure, and overall good condition. Assessing this requires experience and a trained eye. Many fanciers follow the principle “good produces good,” meaning that high performing parent birds are likely to produce strong offspring. Health is the foundation of preparation. Young pigeons should receive the necessary vaccinations, for example against salmonella, rotavirus, paramyxovirus, and possibly pigeon pox, to reduce the risk of disease.

When it comes to feeding, easily digestible feed and good nutrient availability are essential to support a stable digestive system. Once these basics are in place, young pigeons can begin their first training flights, starting at the loft and then gradually increasing distances to gently accustom them to transport and competition.

Energy and protein for growing pigeons
Proper feeding is a key part of preparation. From the 7th week of life, after weaning, we recommend feeding Top Jungtaube. This specially developed mix provides all essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals needed for healthy growth and muscle development. The recommended protein level of 14 percent is achieved through the inclusion of Power-Erbsen. This supports the immune status, promotes antibody formation, and contributes to natural defenses. Turmeric in the yellow Power-Erbsen, along with added milk thistle, supports liver function. The energy rich Top Mais provides the necessary energy for growth and preparation for training and racing.

Racing feed concepts for young pigeons
Some fanciers prefer to introduce their pigeons early to their regular racing feeding system. Whether using a three phase feeding approach with Relax, Energy, and Power-Mix, or relying on a single mix such as Power-Mix or Elite Racing, depends on individual preference. All systems ensure a complete supply of nutrients and energy. Mifuma pigeon feeds provide a balanced combination of proteins, amino acids, and energy to support performance. Additional support can be provided through complementary products such as Carni-Speed or Rotosal, administered via drinking water.

The finishing touch with Immun Perle
Supplementing the ration with Immun Perle can further support natural defenses. The coated grape seed combines its natural antioxidant properties and high quality grape seed oil with an outer layer of functional components, enzymes, and flavoring elements that support digestive stability. Many breeders also report positive experiences when using it as part of their prevention strategy during the young bird phase.
